I have attended many events where I’ve been told “I wish we found you earlier! We had a different piper at our last function and he was awful.” I’ll repeat what I said on my front page, there is nothing worse than a set of poorly maintained bagpipes being played by an inexperienced or poorly taught performer. Apart from damaging the reputation of the bagpipes, to take money for for doing it really does take the biscuit!
Below are a selection of just some of the emails and texts I have received after performing at an event
“Hi Mark, Just wanted to drop you a wee note and say a big thank you for playing at Sally and Matt’s wedding. You were just great and our guests really enjoyed listening to you and it was such a wonderful surprise for the bride and groom! You were ‘the icing on the wedding cake’! It was lovely to meet you and I hope that when and if my other daughter ever gets round to getting married you will be there to play for her too! If any potential mothers of the bride want a testimonial, please feel free to ask them to contact me.
Hi Mark, Just thought I would drop you a quick email to say thank you for playing on our wedding day on Sunday. It felt amazing when you played as I walked up the church path. Pipes always make me emotional as they remind me of home and you took me home on my day. Andy and I were so happy you played a pipers toast at our reception, it added something extra special to our day that we will always remember. Many of our guests have commented how good you were. They were surprised we found such a good Scottish piper in Yorkshire. Thank you south for making our day extra memorable. Regards, Mr & Mrs Carr
“Just a quick note to say Thank You so much for your amazing services on our wedding day. Not only were you able to attend at such short notice (next day) you were willing to travel to Spalding, Lincs. My wife and I hold you in the highest of regards, making our day that extra special. We cant wait to receive our wedding DVD to re live the day. I will and already have recommended you to others as you was nothing but excellent. So once again Thank You and also cheers for the shot of whisky during the pipers toast it slipped down a treat. Take care and all the best. Kindest of Regards Mr & Mrs Tyrie”
“Sandy and I would just like to thank you for making our day that extra special with your Piping. It was a total supprise for Sandy and really made his family and friends from Scotland welcome. Sorry I gave you the wrong post code, typical of me I’m affraid – I did the same thing to my wedding cars…..but luckily you both some how found it and on time too. Thanks again for an excellent job and have a wonderful christmas!”
“Dear Mark, Just a quick email to say thank you so much for piping at our wedding at Aston Hall, Sheffield. The weather no doubt made playing extremely unpleasant but the guests thought you were absolutely awesome and you really made Darren and my day – we really couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you again, Vee” [Editor note: It was minus 6 degrees C and blowing a gale!]
“Dear Mark, Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you so much for doing such a fantastic job at our wedding! We thought the Brian Boru march worked perfectly, and guests commented on how much they enjoyed the pipe music – I could hear the pipes drifting up to the garden at home when Dad and I were waiting for the car to arrive – a real sense of occasion! Thanks again, Best Wishes Clare & Hubie Conway”
“Mark, I just wanted to say thank you so much for piping at our wedding on 25th Sept. It was a magical day for us, and the piping was fantastic. It added a real feel of Scotland to the little Yorkshire village. You played our chosen tunes fantastically. I hope you also enjoyed it.”
“Hello Mark, I hope you’re well. Just wanted to say thank you very much for the fantastic bagpipe music at our wedding at Ripley Castle on Good Friday. I’ve attached a couple of pics. Dave absolutely loved the surprise. Sorry it’s taken a while to get back in touch but we luckily had the length of our honeymoon almost doubled by the recent volcano disruptions! Best wishes, Amy & David Lund”
